Come for the Education, Stay for the Community

We know our classes at the School for Entrepreneurship and Technology (SET High), a tuition-free 9th-12th grade high school in San Diego, are pretty fantastic. But…there’s more to school than just class and let’s just say, that’s pretty fantastic too! Join us for a high-quality education while enjoying yourself in a close-knit community.

Come for the Education

At SET High we want all of our 9th-12th graders to love learning. Our SET students are exposed to a mix of traditional coursework alongside these incredible offerings:

– A personalized education that meets you where you are…and where you want to go.

– Your chance to design your own learning journey

– Everything you need for California’s UC A-G requirements

– A mighty slate of Visual and Performing Arts.

Our trademark Passion Projectswe’re serious about the loving learning goal!

Dual enrollment with Mesa College, which equals college credit for free, online or on campus.

– Our unique and amazing electives like The Wisdom of Star Wars and Robotics.

– Planning and advice as early as freshman year as part of our Ready, SET, College

Stay for the Community

Teens need a variety of activities to balance their lives and personal growth so our California Distinguished School makes sure you have plenty of options to build community. We also stress the importance of acceptance and a positive school culture. We build community, not cliques, at our small tuition-free public school. We connect through:

-Overnight 9th Grade Retreat, and, if you’re a senior, an overnight camping trip with our principal.

Athletics: our Boys Volleyball team is the best in their league and going into our next tournament seeded first!

-Quarterly ReSET events (think musical chairs fun…or dodgeball plus a SET Olympics that by SET Constitution law happens every year).

-Student and teacher-led clubs like:

  • Magic The Gathering
  • Film Production (just featured a seven minute horror short during our recent Service Day)
  • Codebreakers
  • Mountain Biking
  • College Prep (including test preparation)
  • D & D
  • Battlebots
  • Art
  • Bible Study
  • National Association of Mental Illness (NAMI)
  • Ping Pong (subsidized by our great attendance stats –we’re up to 97%!)
  • SET Senate: SET student senators create student-led policy and bring it to administration for approval

Focus on SET High Service Day

This spring, assistant principal (and a San Diego County Outstanding Teacher of the Year…she also teaches Leadership classes) Nicky Geis orchestrated the first SET High Service Day. All students and staff spent the day involved in trail maintenance at Ruffin Canyon, cleaning up the Serra Mesa Recreation Center and Cabrillo Heights Park, and even applying some paint touch-ups to our campus! It wasn’t all work and no play however. Pizza was shared at lunch and there was a water balloon fight as part of a ReSet event.

We asked Ms. G if she had any goals for the service day going forward. “HUGE goals! I would love for SET to be synonymous with gratitude and generosity. I would love for our students to be all over San Diego at different organizations helping as many people as possible. I want our students to carry with them a desire to help others while they are at SET and for the rest of their lives.”

Three cheers for community connections and being of service!! At our tuition free public high school, our academic game is strong and our community makes a big difference! Enrolling now.
