Welcome to the School for Entrepreneurship and Technology (SET High). This is not your typical high school. A learning journey here requires some decision-making, passion-hunting, and not-always-linear pathways. We don’t provide you with a class schedule that you obediently take, no questions asked. At SET High you design your own learning journey.
SET High is a free public high school in San Diego that prides itself in developing free-thinkers. Our mission is to prepare our students to thrive both personally and professionally in an increasingly global, technology-driven society. Through an immersive education that combines the highest academic standards and a focus on entrepreneurship and technology, SET High teaches practical skills, and cultivates the emotional intelligence necessary to launch the next generation of business and social leaders.

Students choose their own path which is dramatically different from most high schools. Course selection is ultimate freedom. Consider the fact that SET High enrolls new students all year. Imagine a student from Seattle moving into San Diego mid-semester. Due to life challenges, maybe they are behind in Algebra. What if a student feels completely disengaged from high school altogether and doesn’t own their why?
Does the student choose to drop out of school? Or does the student enroll in SET High where the student-to-teacher ratios are low and every student is seen and heard for who they are and what their life is all about?
Example: One SET High student wants to be an English major in college and also wants to take our hugely popular “Debunking Disney” elective.
Problem: The challenge is in balancing credits for the semester.
Solution: Flexibility! Our SET High teacher will readily accommodate this student’s personally-designed goals by assigning alternative English coursework to satisfy English credits during the elective course.
We work with our students to help discover academic and life passions. We mold school to fit the student, rather than asking the student to fit into school.
Example: Our expansive menu of unique electives is designed by our teachers and based on their experiences and life passions. One offering is “Rocket Building, from Failure To Launch” where our SET high schooler might discover a desire to be an aerospace engineer. We will guide and accompany our students as they follow wherever their academic passions may lead- towards college, career or military service. Bonus: each student gains self-awareness, personal development, and self-advocacy along the way.
We develop dynamic members of society while we teach future scientists, engineers, commercial artists, entrepreneurs, and professions that have yet to be named. We believe that when our students dive deeper into their passion, we as a school accept the honorable mission to mold our public education to fit that student’s unique needs. Our success hinges on our high school students feeling equipped to achieve their passionate dreams beyond the doors of SET High.
