21 Mar Then…And Now: Mr. Snow
Our teachers wear many hats at SET High, a tuition-free 9th-12th grade high school in San Diego, and Mr. Robert Snow is no exception. Going on four years of teaching at SET, he’s a social sciences teacher, a coach and our athletic director. We always want to know more about our incredible staff at SET, but we also want to know about what they were like in high school so let’s begin.
What career did you want to pursue when you were in high school?
A NBA player, author, and/or a journalist.
Did you have any jobs while in high school?
I worked at Papa Johns and my grandpa’s tuneup shop. One time a customer threw a pizza at us because they heated their pizza box in the oven and it caught on fire. They drove back to the store and made sure we heard from them about their mistake.
What school activities were you involved with in high school?
I played basketball, volleyball and I was a police captain in the play Arsenic and Old Lace.
What music did you love listening to in high school? Now?
In high school, Bone Thugs-N-Harmony and Tupac. Now, I am more into indie, alternative and hard rock but still listen to rap.
Did you attend any memorable concerts in high school?
No, I didn’t go to concerts until I was in college.
What was your go-to after school snack in high school? What about now?
I went to places like Jack in the Box often because I could get a lot of food for five dollars. Now I eat meals that are delivered, which I microwave.
What did you eat for lunch in high school? What about now?
Nachos often and pretzels and sometimes nothing. Now, microwave meals.
What was your favorite class in high school? What class would you like to take now at SET?
I love English classes the most because of books like The Catcher in the Rye. I would probably take the Graphic Novels class or Guitar to finally learn an instrument.
How did you get around in high school? How do you get around now?
I walked the first two years of high school and then the last two years I took the bus. My first car was an ’82 Camaro that I didn’t start driving until I graduated. It was root beer colored.
What do you love about SET- what sets it apart from other schools?
It is a very diverse school and the classroom sizes are small. Also, where else can I teach classes like Conspiracy Theories and Propaganda and History through Media: Video Games?
And finally, what is something you wish you knew at age 19?
To invest like crazy.
